When the Massey Business School asked its staff to support the University’s direct-from-salary giving programme, it allowed them to decide how their donations would be spent. They voted to use the money to support students facing financial hardship. Sport management student Samantha-Jo Toohill is one of the first recipients. The solo mother realised furthering her education was the key to a better future – and the bursary is now helping her with everything from petrol to get to class, food for her family and textbooks. A quick photo update from our CANEX cadets: so far the cadets have had an arrival pot luck dinner, participated in an inter-unit sports night with their host unit (RCSCC Fraser) and a local air cadet unit (513 SQN), hit the water sailing, done a high ropes course, visited the Vancouver maritime museum, done some sightseeing, visited Vancouver aquarium’s wet room, the space centre, science world and BCIT Aerospace- all of this, and more, in just over 7 days!

These exchanges provide amazing opportunities for not only our NZCF cadets, but also opportunities for the host cadet and family to meet and learn about the visiting cadet. Each will learn about the others culture, families, discuss each other’s cadet organisations with their similarities and differences, but also create new friends by having a shared interest in being a cadet.
