Red Stag Timber employ Summer Students’ during the summer holiday period. This year we have six Summer Students working across our site. Rebecca, pictured below, shares her experience so far: “I have just completed my second year at the University of Canterbury, studying towards a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. My Summer Student position at Red Stag is Projects Assistant, and I help out with various projects. The main project I am working on is collating the data collected from around site. This is then put into a new piece of software and I help create graphical representations of the site to help people understand the information they are reading. I’ve learnt many things, including electrical drawing skills, basic PLC coding, and how the site works in general. My colleagues are incredibly helpful and take time out of their day to teach me all sorts of things relevant to my degree. To work here, I had to undergo an induction to the site, and lock out training in case I work on any machinery. Everything else I am learning on the job with supervision and help from my colleagues. My favourite thing about working at Red Stag is the atmosphere. Everyone is happy to help and answer questions, and there is a welcoming vibe here at Red Stag.”
